Reds 2005-2006 Innagural Season
The Reds baseball team was started in the 2005-2006 year. The Reds were
put together by Kris Sharp, Rick Bailey, and Nolberto Lopez, which we
will call “the core”. All 3 wanted to play some baseball
in the fall and thought it would be great to get a team together and
have some fun. They got a great bunch of guys together and joined the
Philadelphia Fall Baseball league. In the Reds first year they struggled
week after week getting enough players to play, but managed to pull
it together to finish the year with a record of 4-9-1. All home games
were played at Bensalem High School.
That winter, the decision was made to enter the Reds into
the GPMABL. Knowing that league had some very good teams “the
core” knew they had to make some changes to become competitive.
First move was to find a new place to play ball at, with some great
influence by Joe Onorato and Drew Garfield the team moved from Bensalem
to Liberty Bell Field. With summer coming fast “the core”
went to work recruiting and picked up players from word of mouth and
the GPMABL draft. Long story, short the Reds played in the 2006 GPMABL
and won their division with an outstanding record of 16-5. Playoffs
didn’t go so well because of injuries and players moving on, but
the Reds were happy with their first full year in existence which ended
in a 20-14-1 record and a division title. On a side note the Reds also
put together a mixed team and traveled to Hagerstown Maryland where
they participated in the Reno Powell Memorial Day Tournament!
